Hey it is 4/4 today. Paying homage to The Man...just don't let him near the Queen!!

So I’ve been telling you all along not to panic…it’s only the first week of the season. Hitters are very streaky. What about pitchers you ask? I wouldn’t overreact over pitching debuts either. But what you can do is target the owners that do.  Look for someone in your league with a trigger finger like Raylan Givens and make your move.  Here’s some guys to target…

Rejoice Royals fans! You are undefeated...in April!!

It’s after midnight…so it’s not OFFICIALLY April Fools Day anymore.  Does that mean you can trust everything you read in this post?  Enter at your own risk.  It’s late, I’m tired and I think I just watched the worst movie ever made.  If you never saw The Box do me a favor…DON’T!!!!

Let’s start with the first game this afternoon…Astros at Phillies.  Mentioned it yesterday…Randy Myers vs. Roy Halladay.   If you could bet on which one of those 2 pitchers would go 7 innings and only give up 3 hits which one would it be?  Of course!  It was Randy Myers.  We all would have lost.  Also in the game Brandon Lyon blew the save…seems to be the trend already this year.

Except in LA….where you can’t beat up their fans…or their team!  Donnie Baseball is 2-0 as manager and Jonathan Broxton has 2 saves already.  They’ve gotten 2 great starts so far from Kershaw last night and Billingsley tonight.

Red Sox Nation is hoping Friday’s game was some kind of joke.  In a matchup of 2 powerful offenses, the defending AL champion Rangers were too much for the preseason favorite Boston.  Red Sox Ace Jon Lester gave up 5 runs in 5 1/3 innings.  After ending last season 3rd in the AL in strikeouts, Lester had 0 in Friday’s game.  Daniel Bard looked like the second coming of Eric Plunk in this game.  AGone looks like he justified people reaching for him early in drafts..and there was a Big Papi sighting.  Impressive homer off a lefty to tie the game at one point.

In Cleveland the scoreboard looked like a Browns/Bears game.  Lots of offense in this one.  In most of the games compared to yesterday.  Adam Dunn showed he is adjusting to the AL just fine with a homer and 4 RBIs.  He was topped by his teammate Carlos Quentin with a homer and 5 RBIs.  On the other end of the scale there is of course Indians #1 pitcher Fausto Carmona giving up 10 ERs in just 3 innings.

In another surprising pitching matchup….TB phenom David Price vs Orioles journeyman Jeremy Guthrie.  Which one throws 8 innings of 3 hit ball?  Of course it’s Guthrie!

Brandon Belt…first major league homer Friday night!  If you’re a follower of my posts you were not surprised by this.  I can’t set your lineups for you!

King Felix – Felix Hernandez of Seattle had the major league’s first complete game of the season.

See above for the picture of Kila Ka-aihue’s walkoff homer to lead the Royals to the Opening Day victory over the Angels.  I just love typing that name.  Actually at 1:41 AM…I really don’t.  THE ROYALS AND PIRATES ARE UNDEFEATED AND IN FIRST PLACE.  Of course it’s April Fool’s Day…

Saving the best for last…Toronto C JP Arencibia….wasn’t even guaranteed the starting job or many ABs so he was low on draft boards.  Well he exploded out of the gate Friday night for 2 homers and 5 RBIs.  I don’t need a calculator to tell you what kind of blistering pace he is on.  Odds are he won’t keep it up! Remember when he got called up last summer.  Hot out of the gate and then he cooled off.

Hopefully some time this weekend I’ll get some injury updates posted, maybe a report on the closer situation.

Actually 1 injury to report Cardinals OF Matt Holliday got his appendix removed, no timetable for his return.  Check back for his status for next week.
