My favorite Manny moment.

Can you believe Youtube doesn’t have a video of Manny cutting off Johnny Damon’s throw from the OF?  This picture doesn’t really do it justice.  Sorry just had to throw another Manny tidbit in there so I can tag him again.  Now onto the NON-disgraced baseball players….

Injury News :

Cardinals OF Matt Holliday is supposed to start on Sunday.

For the MASH unit leading the AL East, the Orioles…JJ Hardy and Brian Roberts both returned on Saturday.  Roberts went 0-4 in Game 1 of the doubleheader.  Hardy left the second game with a strained oblique.  Expect a DL stint.  Starting pitcher Jeremy Guthrie was hoping to return and start on Sunday, but that outing has been pushed back to Tuesday.  Corporal Klinger is still in drag.

Marlins OF Mike Stanton returned to the starting lineup Saturday, but SS Hanley Ramirez missed the game.  No word on his return.  Keep in mind the Marlins have an off day Monday, so he may sit tomorrow to get a full 3 days of rest in.  Stanton meanwhile went 1-3 with an RBI 2B, 2 runs, a walk and 2 Ks.

For any of you who own Pirates starting pitchers, hopefully there aren’t that many of you….Ross Ohlendorf was placed on the 15 day DL today.

I would have him in a Rays jersey, but it only lasted 5 games

The big news on Friday was that 12 time All Star Manny Ramirez retired.  Word is that he failed a drug test in Spring Training.  Since that was his second offense he was looking at a 100 game suspension.  Manny played for the Indians, Red Sox, Dodgers, and Rays and was a .312 career hitter with 555 HRs and 1831 RBIs.  He started off this season for the Rays in a 1-17 slump before being benched.

So Dunn, you were under Oveur and over Unger?

Dunn is over Unger? Anyway….Adam Dunn had an appendectomy and is going to miss at least 5 games. Strange that Matt Holliday had the same injury last week. I wonder if they had the steak or the fish? Oh I remember he had the lasagna!

If I could be serious for a minute, here’s some more injury news and a quick listing of who’s hot/who’s not :

Hey it is 4/4 today. Paying homage to The Man...just don't let him near the Queen!!

So I’ve been telling you all along not to panic…it’s only the first week of the season. Hitters are very streaky. What about pitchers you ask? I wouldn’t overreact over pitching debuts either. But what you can do is target the owners that do.  Look for someone in your league with a trigger finger like Raylan Givens and make your move.  Here’s some guys to target…

Pinstripes make anyone look classy

Here’s the fantasy news for a Saturday chock full of baseball.  Every Major League team is in action today.  I’m getting an earlier start today so I won’t be so tired this time. I’m slow enough as it is.  It would also help if I post these the same night I write them instead of getting around to it the next day.  I guess it will take me some time to round into regular season form as well.

Rejoice Royals fans! You are undefeated...in April!!

It’s after midnight…so it’s not OFFICIALLY April Fools Day anymore.  Does that mean you can trust everything you read in this post?  Enter at your own risk.  It’s late, I’m tired and I think I just watched the worst movie ever made.  If you never saw The Box do me a favor…DON’T!!!!

Let’s start with the first game this afternoon…Astros at Phillies.  Mentioned it yesterday…Randy Myers vs. Roy Halladay.   If you could bet on which one of those 2 pitchers would go 7 innings and only give up 3 hits which one would it be?  Of course!  It was Randy Myers.  We all would have lost.  Also in the game Brandon Lyon blew the save…seems to be the trend already this year.

Except in LA….where you can’t beat up their fans…or their team!  Donnie Baseball is 2-0 as manager and Jonathan Broxton has 2 saves already.  They’ve gotten 2 great starts so far from Kershaw last night and Billingsley tonight.

Red Sox Nation is hoping Friday’s game was some kind of joke.  In a matchup of 2 powerful offenses, the defending AL champion Rangers were too much for the preseason favorite Boston.  Red Sox Ace Jon Lester gave up 5 runs in 5 1/3 innings.  After ending last season 3rd in the AL in strikeouts, Lester had 0 in Friday’s game.  Daniel Bard looked like the second coming of Eric Plunk in this game.  AGone looks like he justified people reaching for him early in drafts..and there was a Big Papi sighting.  Impressive homer off a lefty to tie the game at one point.

In Cleveland the scoreboard looked like a Browns/Bears game.  Lots of offense in this one.  In most of the games compared to yesterday.  Adam Dunn showed he is adjusting to the AL just fine with a homer and 4 RBIs.  He was topped by his teammate Carlos Quentin with a homer and 5 RBIs.  On the other end of the scale there is of course Indians #1 pitcher Fausto Carmona giving up 10 ERs in just 3 innings.

In another surprising pitching matchup….TB phenom David Price vs Orioles journeyman Jeremy Guthrie.  Which one throws 8 innings of 3 hit ball?  Of course it’s Guthrie!

Brandon Belt…first major league homer Friday night!  If you’re a follower of my posts you were not surprised by this.  I can’t set your lineups for you!

King Felix – Felix Hernandez of Seattle had the major league’s first complete game of the season.

See above for the picture of Kila Ka-aihue’s walkoff homer to lead the Royals to the Opening Day victory over the Angels.  I just love typing that name.  Actually at 1:41 AM…I really don’t.  THE ROYALS AND PIRATES ARE UNDEFEATED AND IN FIRST PLACE.  Of course it’s April Fool’s Day…

Saving the best for last…Toronto C JP Arencibia….wasn’t even guaranteed the starting job or many ABs so he was low on draft boards.  Well he exploded out of the gate Friday night for 2 homers and 5 RBIs.  I don’t need a calculator to tell you what kind of blistering pace he is on.  Odds are he won’t keep it up! Remember when he got called up last summer.  Hot out of the gate and then he cooled off.

Hopefully some time this weekend I’ll get some injury updates posted, maybe a report on the closer situation.

Actually 1 injury to report Cardinals OF Matt Holliday got his appendix removed, no timetable for his return.  Check back for his status for next week.
