Boston celebrates taking 1 out of 3 against the Pirates and remaining a half game behind the first place Yankees.

Red Sox SP Andrew Miller picked up his first AL victory and Boston snapped a 4 game losing streak by beating the Pirates 4-2.  He went 6 innings allowing a run on 5 hits with 2 walks & 4 Ks.  1B A-Gone went 2-3 with 2 walks.  No RBIs, but he now leads the majors with a .361 batting average.  OF Jacoby Ellsbury went 1-4 but stole his AL leading 25th base.  They are gearing up for a series in Philly on Tuesday.

INJURY NEWS
Red Sox SP Josh Beckett is still dealing with an illness so his start got pushed back again until Tuesday.
Phillies SP Roy Oswalt was placed on the DL with lower back tightness.
A’s OF Josh Willingham went on the DL with a strained left achilles tendon.
Twins 1B Justin Morneau is on the DL with a neck injury.
Indians OF Shin-Soo Choo was hit by a pitch and broke his left thumb, landing him on the DL.
Rangers SS Elvis Andrus injured his left wrist and hopes to return Tuesday.
Giants SP Jonathan Sanchez went on the DL with left biceps tendonitis and Barry Zito was activated to replace him.
Phillies closer Ryan Madson took a comebacker off his hand and won’t be available until Monday or Tuesday.
Twins OF Delmon Young went on the DL with an ankle sprain.
White Sox SP John Danks went on the DL with a left oblique strain.
Pirates OF Jose Tabata left Sunday’s game in the 2nd inning after beating out a bunt with an injured left quad.

Reds OF Jay Bruce missed Sunday’s game with an illness.

Twins C Joe Mauer and Texas OF Josh Hamilton sat out for routine rest.

Rangers SP Alexi Ogando has been struggling and may have his next start in the rotation skipped.

GAME NOTES

Phillies SP Roy Halladay picked up his 10th win of the season beating the A’s 3-1.  He threw his NL leading 5th CG of the season, giving up a run on 8 hits with 0 walks & 4 Ks.  He now leads the NL with 123 strikeouts.  Speaking of strikeouts, 1B Ryan Howard went 0-2 with 2 walks and stole his first base of the season, but he’s in the middle of an 0-9 slump.  SS Jimmy Rollins broke an 0-13 slump going 4-4 with a double and 2 runs.

Reds SP Homer Bailey came off the DL and lost to the Orioles 7-5.  He gave up 5 runs on 9 hits in 5 innings with 2 walks & 5 Ks.

Tigers IF Jhonny Peralta went 3-4 with his 12th homer & 2 RBI in the 8-3 win over the Diamondbacks.

Cubs C Geovany Soto went 3-3 with a homer & 2 RBI in the 6-3 loss to the Royals.

Blue Jays SP Ricky Romero threw a CG SHO at the Cardinals, beating them 5-0.  He gave up 4 hits, 2 walks & 5 Ks in Toronto’s 3 game sweep.

Brewers SP Chris Narveson went 6 2/3 innings, and allowed 2 runs on 5 hits with 2 walks & 7 Ks in the 6-2 win over the Twins to even his record at 5-5.

Nationals SP Livan Hernandez went 6 2/3 innings scattering 8 hits, a run, 2 walks & 9 Ks in beating the White Sox 2-1.

The Yankees celebrated Old Timers Day by beating the Rockies 6-4.  39 year old Jorge Posada went 1-2 with his 8th homer and 41 year old closer Mariano Rivera struck out the side for his 20th save of the season, #579 all-time.  3B AROD went 1-4 with an RBI in his 6th straight game.  1B Tex went 1-4 & tied Joey Bats for the ML lead with his 23rd homer, a solo shot.  OF Nick Swisher hit his 6th homer in the month of June.  Colorado 3B Ty Wiggington went 3-4 with 2 solo bombs.  That’s 5 homers in his last 4 games.

The Rays knocked off the Astros in a slugfest 14-10.  Tampa got 19 hits to Houston’s 14.  TB’s top 4 hitters went 13-22 with 3 homers, 12 runs & 10 RBI.  Captain Caveman went 4-6 with 3 runs, Ben Zobrist was 3-5 with 4 runs scored,  3B Evan Longoria went 4-6 with 2 homers & 5 RBI, OF BJ Upton went 2-5 with a homer & 4 RBI.  Astros closer Mark Melancon got roughed up for 5 runs & 6 hits in 1 1/3 innings.  Of course he came in for the 8th & not the 9th.  Closers never pitch well in non-save situations!!  Just venting.  OF Michael Bourn’s identity is to steal bases, and he went 1-5 with a run, RBI & of course, his ML leading 33rd SB.  2B Jeff Keppinger went 3-3 with 3 runs, 2 RBI & his 2nd homer of the season.

Mets rookie SP Dillon Gee improved to 8-1 in the 8-5 win over the Rangers.  He went 6 innings and allowed 3 runs on 8 hits with 2 walks & a K.  SS Jose Reyes went 4-5 with 3 runs, an RBI, a 3B, & a SB..his 28th.  He’s now hitting .341 on the season.  He needs Jerry Maguire to represent him…

Braves SP Tim Hudson threw 6 shutout innings but picked up a ND in a 4-1 loss to the Padres.  He gave up 6 hits, 3 walks & 8 Ks.  SD SP Corey Luebke went 5 scoreless allowing only 1 hit with 2 walks & 6 Ks.

Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw threw his 2nd straight CG in beating the Angels 3-2.  He gave up 2 runs on 6 hits with no walks & 11 Ks.  Angels closer Jordan Walden gave up 2 runs on a hit and 2 walks in the bottom of the 9th to blow his 5th save of the season.  SP Jered Weaver went 7 innings and gave up a run on 7 hits with a walk & 4 Ks.

Giants SP Madison Bumgarner improved to 4-9 on the season with a 3-1 win over the Indians.  He went 7 innings and allowed a run on 6 hits with a walk & 11 Ks.

So Isiah Carey had to be let go due to his inappropriate language, so let’s give Melissa Sander a try..she sent me her demo…
