Chris Heisley representing Team USA

The Yankees & Reds split a doubleheader on Wednesday with the Yankees winning the first game 4-2 & the Reds avoiding the sweep by taking the nightcap 10-2. The Game 1 heroes for the Yankees were SP Freddy Garcia who evened his record at 6-6 & went 7 innings and allowed 0 ERs, 7 hits, a walk & 4 Ks. C Jorge Posada broke a 2-2 tie with a 2-run homer. It was his first homer since 4/23. In Game 2 Johnny Cueto went 7 innings and allowed a run on just 2 hits with 3 walks & 6 Ks. Chris Heisley took advantage of the playing time and hit 3 homers and drove in 5 runs. It was his first career multi-homer game. GAME NOTES

Braves SP Brandon Beachy came off the DL and beat the Blue Jays 5-1 to complete the 3 game sweep.  He went 6 innings and allowed a run on 4 hits with 2 walks and a career high 11 Ks.  Much maligned 2B Dan Uggla went 1-4 with his 10th homer and C Brian McCann stayed hot going 2-4 with a homer & 2 RBI.  Blue Jays OF Joey Bats went 1-3 and regained the major league home run lead with his 22nd.  He’s now 1 up on Konerko, The Grandy Man & Tex.

Dodgers SP Ted Lilly gave up 6 runs on 6 hits in 4 2/3 innings, but he only allowed 1 walk & did whiff 8 in the 7-5 loss to the Tigers.  So it could have been worse.  Just ask John Lackey.

Red Sox SP John Lackey lasted only 3 1/3 innings and gave up 5 runs on 4 hits with 4 walks & 4 Ks in the 5-1 loss to the Padres.  A-Gone went 4-4 with his ML leading 69th RBI. The game was called in the 8th inning after 4 rain delays.

Phillies SP Cliff Lee threw his 2nd straight CG SHO by beating the Cardinals 4-0 allowing 6 hits with a walk & 6 Ks.

Rangers closer Neftali Feliz blew his 4th save of the season and the Astros ended up winning the game 5-3.  He gave up 4 runs on 4 hits when he came into the game in the top of the 9th up 5-1.  Houston PH Matt Downs hit the 2 run homer to give the Astros the lead.  Texas SP Colby Lewis had a strong performance wasted going 7 scoreless allowing only 3 hits with a walk & 8 Ks.

Rockies IF Ty Wiggington got the start at 1B today and went 2-4 with 2 homers & 3 RBI in the 4-3 loss to the Indians.

Mariners SP Erik Bedard went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs (0 earned), 3 hits, 2 walks & 10 Ks but picked up the loss to the Nationals 2-1.  Seems to be a recurring theme in Seattle this season.  A strong pitching performance wasted by the starters.

Angels 1B Mark Trumbo went 3-5 with a double and the game winning RBI single in the top of the 10th inning to beat Florida 6-5.

Diamondbacks SP Ian “Mister” Kennedy went 6 innings and gave up a run on 8 hits with 2 walks & 4 Ks to improve to 8-2 in the 3-2 win over the Royals.

Mets IF Justin Turner won the game for the Mets in the bottom of the 13th inning by getting hit by a pitch.  That’s right the A’s 6 game winning streak was stopped 3-2 by walk off HBP.  NY SP RA Dickey went 8 innings and allowed only a run on 3 hits with a walk & 9 Ks.  K-Rod blew his 3rd save of the season to send it to extra innings.  Oakland SP Gio Gonzalez went 7 innings and allowed a run on 4 hits with a walk & 8 Ks in the ND.
