Haven't seen a chain this nice since Eric B.

Monday the Florida Marlins put SS Hanley Ramirez on the DL for his back injury. It was the first time in his career he’s been placed on the DL. He said it was the worst pain he has ever felt and had to stand up for the entire plane ride from the West Coast last weekend. Stay tuned for updates.

INJURY NEWS

Phillies SS Jimmy Rollins continues to be out due to what they are calling a significantly bruised kneecap.  Skipper Charlie Manuel hopes to have him back in the lineup Wednesday.

The A’s placed SP Brett Anderson on the DL with an elbow injury.  Tommy John surgery is a possibility as he is making the dreaded trip to see Dr. James Andrews.

Rays 3B Evan Longoria remains out with the flu.

Braves SP Tommy Hanson went 6 innings and gave up only 2 hits with 5 walks & 6 Ks as SS Alex Gonzalez hit a solo homer in Atlanta’s 1-0 win over the Marlins.  Mike Minor is rumored to be called up from AAA to start Saturday vs Houston.

Indians SP Carlos Carasco went 8 1/3 scoreless, giving up 3 hits, a walk & 6 Ks while beating the Twins 1-0.  Minnesota SP Francisco Lirano was the tough luck loser in his return.  He gave up 3 hits in 5 innings with 3 walks & 7 Ks.  The only run of the game was unearned.

Red Sox SP Jon Lester picked up his 8th win in a 6-4 victory over the Yankees.  Closer Jonathan Papelbon was suspended 3 games for bumping an umpire against Oakland on Sunday, but of course he appealed it so he could appear in the series against NY & battle for 1st place.  He gave up a walk, hit, & run in the 9th but whiffed 2 to pick up his 12th save.  Yankee 1B Mark Teixeira was plunked on the knee with a pitch in the first inning.  X-rays were negative, but look for Tex to miss a couple games.  Boston SS Marco Scutaro returned from the DL & went 1-4.

Orioles SP Chris Jakubaskas (I hope that’s spelled right…spellcheck apparently doesn’t think so…) picked up the win in a spot start against the A’s.  Oakland has now lost 8 straight games and manager Bob Geren is on the hot seat.  CJ went 5 innings and gave up 3 hits, a walk & 5 Ks in the 4-0 win.  Digdug went 3-4 with a solo bomb.

Phillies SP Roy Oswalt lost his 4th straight decision to LA 6-2.  He went 6 innings and gave up 4 runs on 8 hits with 2 walks & 1 K.  Philly has now lost 5 of 7 games.  Dodgers OF Matt Kemp went 2-4 with a double, homer & 2 RBI.  Philly is homerless in their last 6 games.  Dodger SS Dee Gordon made his first major league start, with his Dad Tom “Flash ” Gordon in attendance.  He went 3-5 with a run & a SB, all the first of his career.  Philly OF John Mayberry Jr was sent back to AAA.

Reds SP Edinson Volquez returned from the DL and picked up a 8-2 win over the Cubs.  He went 7 innings, scattering 7 hits, 1 run, 2 walks & 5 Ks.  The ageless IF Miguel Cairo went 2-4 with a grand slam.  Is he a player-coach or something?

Tigers SP Rick Porcello went 6 innings allowing 1 run on 6 hits with a walk & 2 Ks in the 8-1 beatdown of the Rangers.  OF Austin Jackson went 3-6 with 3 RBI.

Astros SP Brett Myers gave up 5 runs on 6 hits in 6 innings in the 7-4 loss to the Cardinals.  OF Hunter Pence went 2-4 with a run and extended his career best hitting streak to 18 games.  STL SS Ryan Theroit went 1-5 with an RBI double in his final AB to extend his hitting streak to a career best 20 games.  SP Jake the snake Westbrook picked up the win and helped his cause by going 1-2 with a double & 3 RBI.  OF Lance Berkman returned to the lineup and Big Puma went 1-3 with a homer & 2 RBI.  1B Albert Pujols went 1-4 with a homer in his fourth straight game, a solo shot.
