After an uncharacteristic slow start, Pujols now has 5 homers in his last 7 games.

Cardinals 1B Albert Pujols slugged his 2nd straight walk off home run in extra innings against the Chicago Cubs. He was 2-4 in the 3-2 10 inning win, which capped a 3 game sweep of the Cubbies. SP Chris Carpenter went 9 innings, giving up 2 runs on 7 hits with 2 walks & 6 Ks in a tough ND. STL SS Ryan Theroit went 1-5 with an RBI double in the bottom of the 9th to tie the game & send it into extra innings and give Pujols the chance to be the hero again. He extended his hitting streak to 19 games. Chicago closer Carlos Marmol blew his 4th save of the season.

INJURY NEWS

Twins 1B Justin Morneau missed his 2nd straight game with a sore wrist.

Also with a sore wrist, Cardinals OF Lance Berkman received a cortisone shot on Sunday.

Texas OF Josh Hamilton missed Sunday’s game, but it was just to rest.

Red Sox SP Clay Buckholz had his start pushed back from Wed to Fri, so instead of going against the Yankees, he now gets Toronto.  Be careful what you wish for is what I always say.

White Sox SP Jake Peavy left in the 4th inning with a groin strain.

Rays 3B Evan Longoria should be back Monday, he hit a PH RBI single on Sunday.

Mets OF Carlos Beltran fouled a ball off his shin and left the game in the 2nd inning.

GAME NOTES

Rangers SP CJ Wilson went 7 2/3 shutout innings as Texas completed a 3 game sweep of the Indians 2-0.  He gave up 3 hits, 2 walks & whiffed 7.

Blue Jays SP Jo Jo Reyes has a 2 game win streak after beating the Orioles 7-4.  1B Adam Lind went 4-4 with 2 homers & 3 RBI in his 2nd game back off the DL.

Twins SP Brian Duensing threw 8 scoreless innings in the 6-0 win over the Royals.  He gave up 6 hits, 1 walk & 4 Ks.

Brewers 2B Rickie Weeks went 2-5 with a homer & 3 RBI in the 6-5 win over the Marlins in 11 innings.

Dodgers SP Chad Billingsley picked up the win, and went 2-2 at the plate with a homer & 3 RBI in the 9-6 win over the Reds.

Phillies SP Roy Halladay picked up his 8th win to tie for the major league lead, and stopped Philly’s 4 game losing streak when he beat the Pirates 7-3.  He went 7 innings, giving up 6 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk & 6 Ks.

Tigers IF Ryan Rayburn went 1-4 with a grand slam in the 7-3 win over the White Sox.

Red Sox 1B Adrian Gonzalez went 1-4 with a homer & 2 RBI to give him a major league leading 50 on the year in Boston’s 6-3 victory over the A’s.

Yankee 1B Mark Teixeira went 3-4 with 2 bombs & 3 RBI in the Yankees 5-3 win over the Angels.  Former Yankee and current Angel OF Bobby Abreu went 2-3 with 2 walks & a SB.  He was 6-9 with 4 walks in the 3 game series.

Giants SP Ryan Vogelsong went 8 innings, giving up 1 run, 4 hits, 1 walk & 7 Ks in the 2-1 win over the Rockies.  Cargo wore the Golden Sombrero for the Rockies.  Jason Hammel picked up a tough ND going 7 innings, allowing only 2 hits, 1 run, 2 walks & 4 Ks.

Nationals OF Mike Morse went 1-4 with a grand slam in the top of the 11th inning to lead Washington to a 9-6 win over the Diamondbacks.

Mariners closer Brandon League is back on track with his 16th save in the 9-6 win over the Rays.  He’s gone 9 straight appearances now without giving up a run.

Astros SP Jordan Lyles picked up the first loss of his major league career, losing to the Padres 7-2.  He went 4 innings, allowing 4 runs on 5 hits with a walk & 3 Ks.  OF Hunter Pence went 1-4 with an RBI to extend his hitting streak to 17 games.  SD 3B Chase Headley went 2-4 with 2 doubles, a run, RBI & SB and now has a 15 game hit streak.

Mets SP RA Dickey went 8 innings allowing 4 hits, 1 run, 1 walk & 3 Ks in the 6-4 victory over the Braves on ESPN Sunday night baseball.
