Yankees SP Bartolo Colon threw his first shutout since 2006 today in beating the A’s 5-0. He logged a CG, allowing just 4 hits, 0 walks & 6 Ks. Opposing SP Trevor Cahill gave up 4 runs on 4 hits with 5 walks & 2 Ks in 6 2/3 innings.

INJURY NEWS

Orioles OF Adam “Digdug” Jones missed Monday’s game with the shoulder injury that occurred Sunday.

Yankees C Russell Martin missed Monday’s game with a sore toe.

Cubs OF Alfonso Soriano suffered a strained quad Monday and could be looking at a DL stint.

Red Sox SS Jed Lowrie was out Monday with a stiff left shoulder.

Twins SP Franciso Liriano was placed on the DL with a shoulder injury.

Marlins SS Hanley Ramirez missed Monday’s game due to back pain.  HRAM was quoted to be in the most pain he’s ever felt and he can’t even tie his shoes.  He stood on the entire flight.  Look for him to miss a couple of games at the very least.

Indians OF Grady Sizemore missed Monday’s game, could be just for rest as no injury was reported.  Update : He will return on Tuesday, just clearing his head as he is 0 for his last 12 since coming off the DL.

Giants OF Aaron Rowand left Monday’s game with a hip contusion.

Mets SS Jose Reyes was placed on the bereavement list.

GAME NOTES

Phillies SP Roy Halladay picked up the win against the Nationals to move to 7-3 on the season.  He went 7 innings, giving up 4 runs on 10 hits with no walks & 5 Ks.  He gave up 3 homers on Monday after only giving up 2 all season.  The Phillies sent SP Vince Morley to AAA.

Padres C Kyle Phillips hit his first major league home run in the top of the 10th to beat the Braves 3-2.

Astros SS Jeff Keppinger went 3-5 with a double, homer & 4 RBI in the 12-7 victory over the Cubs.  OF Hunter Pence went 3-4 with a homer, walk & 4 runs scored.  He extended his hit streak to 11 games.  Cubs OF Tony Campana went 1-3 with a walk, run and 4 stolen bases to give him 5 on the season.

Angels OF Torii Hunter went 3-5 with 2 homers & 4 RBI in the 10-8 victory over the Royals.  KC closer Joakim Soria was in the middle of the loss again, blowing his 5th save of the season and 3rd chance in a row.  BREAKING NEWS:  FB2K has learned that Aaron Crow has replaced Soria as the closer for KC.

Orioles SP Jake Arrieta was knocked out of the game in the 3rd inning against the Mariners on a comebacker by Ichiro.  He ended up giving up 4 runs, 4 hits, and 4 walks and lost the game 4-3.

Giants OF Andres Torres went 2-4 with his first career grand slam in the 7-3 win over the Cardinals.  He doubled his RBI total for the season from 4 to 8.  SF SP Madison Bumgarner improved to 2-6 going 7 innings, allowing 6 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks & 5 Ks.  STL SP Kyle McClellan gave up 7 runs on 7 hits in 4 innings.  OF Matt Holliday returned to the lineup and went 1-4.

Rangers C Mike Napoli stayed hot going 3-6 with a double, 2 homers & 5 RBI.  Rays SP Wade Davis went 2 2/3 innings and gave up 7 runs on 12 hits in the Rangers 11-5 win.

It’s time to celebrate!  Blue Jays SP Jo Jo Reyes recorded his first win in his last 29 starts in style!  He threw the first complete game of his career in a 11-1 victory over Cleveland.  He gave up a run on 8 hits with 4 walks & 4 Ks for his first victory since he pitched the Braves over the Dodgers on 6-18-08!  He’s now 1-4 on the season.  Indians SP Fausto Carmona gave up 9 runs on 9 hits in 4 innings pitched.

Mets rookie SP Dillon Gee improved to 5-0 on the season with a 7-3 victory over the Pirates.  He went 7 innings, gave up 5 hits, 3 runs, 0 walks and a career high 8 Ks.  SP RA Dickey will start Tuesday vs Pittsburgh.

Reds OF Jay Bruce went 3-4 with a triple, homer and 3 RBI in their 7-3 win over the Brewers.  Bruce leads the NL in homers & RBI with 16 & 43 respectively.  Milwaukee SP Chris Narveson gave up 5 runs on 5 hits in 4 innings with 2 walks & 7 Ks.  OF Corey Hart returned to the lineup and went 1-3 but had to leave due to the temperatures being in triple digits.  Still not totally over the virus he had.

White Sox SP Jake Peavy improved to 2-0 on the season with a 7-3 win over the Red Sox.  Another 7-3 game?  Jake the Snake went 7 innings, gave up 6 hits, 3 runs, 0 walks & 2 Ks.  Boston SP Jon Lester had his 7 game winning streak snapped.  He gave up 7 runs on 8 hits in 5 2/3 innings with 4 walks & 4 Ks.  He’s having his next start pushed back to Tuesday from Sunday.  He now faces the Yankees instead of the A’s.  Be careful what you wish for Tito.  White Sox SP Gavin Floyd will have his start pushed back to Wednesday after pitching an inning of relief over the weekend.  Phillip Humber will pitch Tuesday.  White Sox 2B Gordon Beckham returned to the lineup Monday night and went 1-4 with a run & a walk.

Marlins SP Chris Volstad gave up 5 runs on 8 hits in 3 1/3 innings in a 15-4 blowout to the Diamondbacks.  Arizona 2B Kelly Johnson went 4-6 with a double, triple, 2 homers, 3 runs, & 3 RBI.

Dodgers SP Chad Billingsley improved his record to 4-4 with a 7-1 win over the Rockies.  He went 7 innings and scattered 11 hits, only giving up 1 run, 2 walks & 8 Ks.  Colorado SP Jason Hammel gave up 7 runs on 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings.
