Clayton Kershaw dominated the Marlins on Sunday with a CG 2-hit shutout.

Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw threw a CG SHO against the Marlins in their 8-0 win on Sunday. He gave up 2 hits, a walk & had 10 Ks to extend his major league strikeout lead to 87. It was his 2nd career shutout. SS Rafael Furcal went 3-5 with his first homer, 2 runs & 3 RBI. Coming into the game he had 2 RBI all season. Marlins SP Ricky Nolasco lasted 5 innings and gave up 8 runs on 15 hits – which was the most ever for a Marlins pitcher. Dodgers OF Matt Kemp and manager Donnie Baseball weren’t around to catch the end of this game, they were ejected in the 4th.


Orioles OF Adam (DigDug) Jones left Sunday’s game with a sore shoulder.

Mets OF Carlos Beltran left Sunday’s game in the 6th inning with a sore left hamstring.

The Giants announced C Buster Posey is officially out for the season.

Marlins SS Hanley Ramirez left in the 2nd inning on Sunday with lower back stiffness.

Cardinals OF Matt Holliday missed Sunday’s game with continuing quad issues.

A’s closer Andrew Bailey was activated from the DL.  Don’t look for him to start closing games just yet though.


Cubs 3B Aramis Ramirez went 1-3 with his 2nd homer of the season in the Cubs 3-2 win over the Pirates.  It was his first homer since April 6th.

Yankees SP CC Sabathia went 8 innings, giving up 1 run, 5 hits, 3 walks & 5 Ks in their 7-1 win over the Mariners.  Seattle SP Jason Vargas gave up 6 runs on 5 hits with 4 walks in 3 innings to take the loss.  Yankee OF Nick Swisher hit his 3rd homer of the season and had 2 walks and 2 runs scored.

Orioles SP Zack Britton gave up 10 hits and 6 runs with 3 walks in 5 2/3 innings in their 6-4 loss to the A’s.  Oakland OF Josh Willingham went 2-4 with a homer & 4 RBI.  The Orioles sent SP Chris Tillman to AAA.

Rangers SP Alexi Ogando gave up 5 runs and 7 hits in 6 innings with a walk & 4 Ks but got bailed out as the Rangers offense came back against the Royals to win 7-6 in the bottom of the 9th.  Rangers C/1B/DH Mike Napoli went 3-4 with a homer & 2 RBI.  He also scored the winning run from 1st on a single.  KC closer Joakim Soria blew his 3rd save in his last 4 attempts, and 4th overall this season.  He now has a 5.57 ERA & 1.57 WHIP this year.

Cardinals SP Kyle Lohse is now tied for the ML lead with his 7th win after beating the Rockies 4-3.  He went 6 innings, scattering 6 hits, 2 runs, a walk & 6 Ks to improve to 7-2.

Red Sox DH David Ortiz hit a pinch hit game winning homer to beat the Tigers 4-3 in game 1 of their doubleheader.  In his career he has 2 ABs vs Detroit closer Jose Valverde and is 2-2 with 2 homers.  Tigers SP Justin Verlander went 7 2/3 shutout innings giving up 4 hits with 2 walks & 3 Ks as the Tigers earned a split of the doubleheader with a 3-0 win in the nightcap.

Blue Jays OF Corey Patterson went 4-5 with a homer & 3 RBI in their 13-4 win over the White Sox.  He was 9-12 with 6 runs scored over the weekend.  2B Aaron Hill went 1-5 with his first homer of the season, which was also his first career grand slam.  White Sox SP John Danks fell to 0-8 with his shortest outing of the season.  He went 4 innings and gave up a season high 8 runs & 9 hits including 3 home runs.

Braves SP Jair Jurrjens earned his 7th win of the season on Sunday Night Baseball with a 2-1 win over the Reds.  He went 8 innings and gave up 1 run on 6 hits.  His 1.51 ERA leads the major leagues.  Reds SP Johnny Cueto tossed his 2nd career CG in the loss.  Cincy OF Jay Bruce was 2-3 with his 15th homer.

Phillies SP Vince Worley picked up his first loss of the season in a 9-5 setback to the Mets.  He gave up 8 runs and 12 hits in 3 innings.  Among the Mets season-high 17 hits, SS Jose Reyes went 4-5 with 2 triples, a run, & a RBI.

Rays SP Jeremy Hellickson went 7 shutout innings and gave up only 3 hits, 2 walks & 6 Ks in the 7-0 win over the now struggling Indians.  Cleveland SP Justin Masterson gave up 7 runs on 8 hits in 5 innings with 5 walks against 0 Ks.  OF Grady Sizemore wore the Golden Sombrero with 4 Ks in his 0-4 game.

Brewers SP Yovani Gallardo went 8 scoreless giving up 4 hits with a walk & 5 Ks in the 6-0 win over the Giants.  Milwaukee won although C Jonathan Lucroy wore the Golden Sombrero as well.
