Guess we'll have to wait for the next zombie apocalypse

INJURY NEWS
Marlins ace Josh Johnson was placed on the DL with right shoulder inflammation.
Indians rookie SP Alex White went on the DL after injuring his finger on a comebacker.
White Sox OF Carlos Quentin missed Saturday’s game with a bruised left knee.
Pirates 3B Pedro Alvarez went on the DL with that quad injury he’s been dealing with.
Cardinals OF Lance Berkman missed Saturday’s game.
Cubs SP Matt Garza was scratched from his start Sunday against Boston after experiencing elbow tightness.
Braves OF Jason Heyward missed Saturday’s game due to a shoulder injury.
Phillies 2B Chase Utley left the Phillies’ minor league team where he was rehabbing and should return to the lineup on Monday.

GAME NOTES

Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista continues to crush the ball.  He went 3-4 with 2 more homers, 4 RBI & a SB.  He has 18 homers on the season.  Astros SP Brett Myers fell to 1-4 in the 7-5 loss to Toronto.  He gave up 6 runs on 8 hits in 6 2/3 innings.

Cardinals SP Jake Westbrook shutout the Royals 3-0.  He went 8 innings and gave up 4 singles, 3 walks, and 3 Ks.  He’s given up 3 runs or less in 6 of his last 7 starts.  OF Matt Holliday went 1-3 with a 2-run homer.  Royals SP Nathan Adcock made his first ML start and went 5 shutout innings, giving up 3 hits with a walk and 4 Ks.

Dodgers SP Jon Garland was knocked around for 11 hits and 7 runs in 3 2/3 innings in their 9-2 loss to the White Sox.

Brewers SP Shaun Marcum went 8 innings, giving up 1 run, 4 hits a walk & 8 Ks in his win over the Rockies.  Colorado OF Carlos Gonzalez returned to the lineup and went 1-4 with a solo.

Phillies SP Cliff Lee beat his old team, the Rangers Saturday night.  He went 8 scoreless innings, giving up 5 hits, 2 walks & 10 Ks.

Giants SP Tim Lincecum threw a CG shutout in his victory over the A’s.  He gave up 3 hits, 0 walks & had 6 Ks.

The Yankees broke their 6 game losing streak in beating the Mets Saturday night.  OF Curtis Granderson went 1-4 with his 15th homer.  Of note…it was his 8th homer off of a LHP.

Cubs OF Marlon Byrd left their comeback victory over Boston after getting beaned in the head.

Marlins SP Javier Vazquez threw 7 scoreless in his victory over the Rays.  He gave up 3 hits, 2 walks & 7 Ks.  Rays SP David Price gave up 5 runs on 6 hits in 6 2/3 innings.

Indians SP Josh Tomlin picked up his 6th victory of the season in a 2-1 win over the in-state rival Reds.  He went 7 innings, giving up a run, 3 singles, a walk & 3 Ks.  Cincy SP Homer Bailey went 7 innings as well, giving up 4 hits, 2 runs, 0 walks & 4 Ks.

Pirates SP Kevin Correia improved to 6-4 on the season with his 6-2 win over the Tigers.  He went 6 2/3 innings, scattering 7 hits, 2 runs, 0 walks & 4 Ks.  Detroit SP Max Scherzer went 5 2/3 innings and gave up 7 hits, 3 runs, 0 walks and 7 Ks in his first loss of the season.

Mariners rookie SP Michael Pineda continued his dominance in a shutout of the Padres.  He went 7 innings and only gave up 2 hits, 0 walks & 9 Ks.

Diamondbacks 2B Kelly Johnson’s went 1-5 but his 8th inning grand slam led Arizona’s comeback over the Twins in their 9-6 victory.
