Was there a Scuzzlebutt sighting in Missouri? Or is it just another hoax?

Kansas City Royals rookie SP Danny Duffy made his major league debut against the Texas Rangers Wednesday night. The game was won by the Rangers 5-4 in 11 innings so he didn’t factor in the decision. He went 4 innings, giving up 4 hits, 2 runs, 6 walks and 4 Ks. Fellow rookie 1B Eric Hosmer came up in the bottom of the 9th with the Royals down 1 and BOOM GOES THE DYNAMITE!  hit a homer off of Rangers closer Neftali Feliz to send the game into extra innings. He had a chance to really be the hero when he came up in the 10th inning with the bases loaded but flew out to left. Wait what?  Rangers rookie SP Alexi Ogando went 7 innings, giving up 4 hits, 2 runs, a walk & 5 Ks.  What did he get for his trouble?  NOTHING.  Nothing but a no decision.

INJURY NEWS

Reds OF Jay Bruce missed Wednesday’s game with an illness.

Cardinals OF Colby Rasmus missed his 4th straight game with an abdominal injury.

Orioles 2B Brian Roberts sat out with severe headaches.

Cardinals OF Matt Holliday left the game with tightness in his left quad.

Cardinals OF Lance Berkman left the game in the 5th inning with right wrist soreness.  They say it will make you go blind as well.

GAME NOTES

Cardinals SP Kyle Lohse went 8 innings and gave up 6 hits, a run, a walk and 3 Ks in beating the Astros.  SS Pete Kozma pinch-hit for the injured Lance Berkman and hit an RBI double in his first major league AB.  Houston SP Bud Norris went 5 innings, giving up 7 hits, 5 runs, 3 walks & 4 Ks.

Red Sox SP Clay Buckholz received a no decision in Boston’s 1-0 win over the Tigers.  He went 7 innings and gave up 4 hits with a walk and 7 Ks.  Detroit SP Phil Coke went 7 shutout innings as well and gave up 3 hits with a walk and 4 Ks.

White Sox SP Jake Peavy got his first win of the year by throwing a complete game shutout at the red-hot Indians.  He gave up 3 hits and struck out 8 in the Sox 1-0 win.  Cleveland SP Justin Masterson took the loss, also going the distance and giving up 5 hits, just the 1 run, 2 walks & 8 Ks.

Phillies SP Cole Hamels went 8 innings, giving up a run on 5 hits with a walk and 8 Ks in their 2-1 win over the Rockies.  Losing pitcher Jorge De La Rosa went the distance, giving up 5 hits, 1 earned run, 0 walks & 4 Ks.

Pirates SP Charlie Morton threw a CG SHO at the Reds in their 5-0 victory.  He gave up 5 hits, 2 walks & 5 Ks.  3B Pedro Alvarez went 1-4 with his 2nd homer of the year and 3 RBIs.

New York Mets SP Jonathan Niese shutout the Nats 3-0 by going 7 innings and yielding 6 hits with a walk and 7 Ks.

New York Yankees SP Bartolo Colon picked up a ND by going 8 scoreless against the Orioles, giving up 3 hits with a walk and 7Ks.  Closer Mariano Rivera blew the save by allowing 2 hits and a run in the bottom of the 9th.  The Yankees ended up winning 4-1 in 15 innings.  Orioles rookie SP Zach Britton went 7 innings, giving up 6 hits, 0 ERs, 3 walks and 4 Ks.

Braves rookie SP Julio Teheran was called up Wednesday to make his 2nd major league start.  He pitched 4 innings, giving up 6 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks and 1 strikeout.  He received a no decision as this game went into extra innings with the Diamondbacks rallying off of Braves closer Craig Kimbrel in the 11th inning to win 5-4.

Twins RP Joe Nathan picked up his first victory of 2011 as Minnesota beat the A’s 4-3 in extra innings.  SP Carl Pavano went 7 innings, giving up 6 hits, 1 ER, 0 walks & 2 Ks.

Mariners SP Jason Vargas picked up the victory as Seattle shut out the Angels 3-0.  He went 7 innings and gave up 4 hits, 2 walks & 9 Ks.  Angels SP Jared Weaver lost his 4th straight start.  He’s 6-4 now after starting the year 6-0.  What the H?  He went 6 innings, he gave up 7 hits, 3 runs, a walk and 4 Ks.  Mariners embattled closer Brandon League came back to pick up his 10th save.

Brewers SP Yovani Gallardo beat the Padres 5-2 on Wednesday night.  He went 6 innings, giving up 5 hits, 2 runs, 3 walks & 9 Ks.
