Tigers SP Max Scherzer threw 8 innings of shutout ball in beating the Yankees 4-0. He allowed only 4 hits with 2 walks and 9 Ks. He’s 4-0 on the season with 46 Ks in 45 2/3 IP. Tigers OF Magglio Ordonez hit his first homer of the season and doubled his RBI total from 2 to 4. DH Victor Martinez returned to the lineup and went 1-3 with a walk and a run.  Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez was 0-4 with 2 Ks & is in the midst of a 5-40 slump that has seen his average drop to .256.  What the H?


Giants OF Andres Torres hopes to return from the DL on Friday.

Mets OF Jason Bay will return from paternity leave on Thursday.

Pirates 3B Pedro Alvarez missed Wednesday game with a quad injury.

Rangers OF Nelson Cruz also missed his game Wednesday with a quad injury.  You know they are teammates on one of my teams.

Dodgers OF Andre Ethier is in the midst of a 29 game hitting streak and hoped to extend it to 30 Wednesday afternoon.  But he sat out the game with left elbow inflammation.  Wait what?

Dodgers closer Jonathan Broxton has been shut down with elbow soreness.  Look for Vincente Padilla to vulture some saves.

Reds SP Johnny Cueto will return on Sunday, not Saturday as previously reported on FB2K.

Blue Jays 2B Aaron Hill will return from the DL on Sunday.

Blue Jays lefty SP Ricky Romero will have his Thursday start pushed back to Sunday due to a sore oblique.

Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista hopes to return to the lineup Sunday as well.  Lots of new faces out there for Toronto on Sunday.  Maybe they should wear name tags?

Yankees SS Derek Jeter left the game in the 8th inning with a sore right hip.


Cubs 1B Carlos Pena hit his first homer or the season on Tuesday night, then another on Wednesday. OF Marlon Byrd also hit his first homer on Wednesday as the Cubs beat the Dodgers 5-1.  SP Carlos Zambrano went 8 innings giving up a run, 5 hits, a walk and 4 Ks.

Giants SP Tim Lincecum beat the Mets 2-0 going 7 innings, giving up 5 hits and striking out 12.  Brandon Belt is currently hitting .500 in AAA with 2 homers & 11 RBIs.  No wonder Audrey Huff is starting to hit.  Just saying…

Twins SP Nick Blackburn went 6 2/3 innings, giving up 4 hits, a run, 4 walks and a whiff to beat the White Sox.  White Sox SP John Danks fell to 0-5 with a 3.83 ERA on the season.  Wednesday afternoon he went 8 innings, giving up 8 hits, 3 runs, 3 walks, and no Ks.  OF Alex Rios went 3-4 with a homer in the losing effort, giving him 3 homers in the last 5 games.

Astros closer Brandon Lyon now has a 7.15 ERA on the season after blowing the save on Wednesday.  He gave up 4 straight hits to the Reds in the 9th.  Look for Mark Melancon to possibly step in.

Orioles young SP Jake Arrieta beat the Royals going 7 innings, allowing a run on 3 hits.  2B Brian Roberts was back in the lineup after his root canal and went 1-5 with a double & a run.  Royals OF Jeff Francoeur homered.  Frenchy now has 3 homers in his last 3 games.

Braves OF Nate McLouth went 5-5 in the Braves doubleheader sweep of the Brewers.  He homered, scored 5 runs, and drove in 2.  SP Tim Hudson faced only 2 batters over the minimum in the Game 2 win.  He gave up a hit, a walk and 6 Ks in the CG 8-0 shutout.  The double and the walk were both to the same dude…Brewers 2B Richie Weeks.  SP Zach Grienke returned from the DL to pitch game 2.  He lasted 4 innings and gave up 5 runs, but did strike out 6 against only 1 walk.

Phillies SP Vince Worley went 6 innings giving up 4 hits and a run with no walks and 7 Ks.  He has now pitched 12 innings this season and has a 0.83 WHIP & 0.75 ERA.  They may have a problem when Joe Blanton comes back.  Not a bad problem to have though. OF Raul Ibanez was 3-4 with a solo homer.  Nationals SP Jason Marquis gave up 7 runs and 10 hits in 5 IP.  Quite a difference from his last start.

Blue Jays RP Frank Francisco closed out the Rays to earn his first save of the season in their 3-2 win.  1B Adam Lind was 4-4 with a homer and 2 RBI.  Rays OF BJ Upton was 0-4 with 4 Ks.  OUCH!

Pirates OF Ryan Doumit was 2-3 with a grand slam Wednesday in the Pirates win over the Padres.  Padres 2B Orlando Hudson missed the game.  O-Dog has a right hamstring strain.

Mariners rookie SP Michael Pineda faced the Rangers for the second time this season Wednesday night.  He got the loss, and allowed his first 2 home runs this year.  He went 7 innings, giving up 7 hits, 4 runs, 0 walks and 9 Ks.  Rangers SP CJ Wilson got the CG win.  He gave up 6 hits, 1 ER, 1 walk and 12 Ks.

As SP Trevor Cahill beat the Indians to move to 5-0 on the season.  He went 7 innings, giving up a run on 5 hits, 3 walks and 5 Ks.  He has a 1.79 ERA & 1.12 WHIP on the season.  Grant Balfour got his 1st save for Oakland.  OF David DeJesus hit his first 2 homers of the season.  Indians SP Josh Tomlin took his first loss of the season.  He went 7 2/3 innings, giving up 2 earned runs 0n only 3 hits with no walks and 5 Ks.  He’s now 4-1 this year with a 2.43 ERA & 0.81 WHIP.
