Let's hope this isn't the highlight of the Twins season

Twins SP Francisco Liriano might have been pitching for his spot in the rotation Tuesday night. He saved his job for now. It wasn’t pretty, but it is a no-hitter. Jason Kubel’s solo homer in the 4th inning held up as Liriano walked six batters and only struck out 2. White Sox SP Edwin Jackson was the hard luck loser going 8 innings, giving up only the one run on 6 hits with a walk and 2 Ks. This was payback, because ironically E-Jax pitched a no-hitter last year…against the Twins..and against what SP you may ask? Francisco Liriano of course!

INJURY NEWS

Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista missed Tuesday night’s game with a stiff neck.  Most likely won’t need to go on the DL.  But of course I’m not a doctor, my training is in psychology.

Red Sox 3B Kevin Youkilis missed Tuesday’s game with an illness.

Twins DH Jim Thome was placed on the 15 day DL with an oblique injury.

Pirates 3B Pedro Alvarez & Rangers OF Nelson Cruz both left their respective games Tuesday night with quad tightness.  They will be re-evaluated on Wednesday.

GAME NOTES

The Brewers/Braves game was rained out and will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Wednesday.

Rockies 3B Ian Stewart was brought up from the minors today, he didn’t start against the left hander though.

Reds SP Johnny Cueto will come off the DL and start on Saturday.  Based on Mike Leake’s performance Tuesday, he will most likely be moved to the bullpen.  He went 3 2/3 innings and gave up 7 runs on 7 hits.

Phillies SP Cole Hamels pitched a CG victory over the Nats.  He gave up 5 hits, 1 run, a walk and 6 Ks.  OF Raul Ibanez broke an 0-35 slump going 2-4 with 2 doubles and an RBI.

Blue Jays closer Jon Rauch blew his first save of the season giving up a walk off homer to OF BJ Upton of the Rays.

Marlins SP Anibel Sanchez went 4 1/3 innings giving up 6 walks and 4 runs but got a ND against STL.  Cardinals OF Matt Holliday went 2-5 with a homer, 2 runs and 2 RBI.  He’s hitting .409 for the season.  RP Eduardo Sanchez picked up his 2nd save.  On the season he’s anything but dirty, with an 18:3 K:BB ratio.

Red Sox SP Jon Lester beat the Angels and Dan Haren going 7 innings, giving up 6 hits, a run, a walk, and 11 Ks.

Tigers 2B Scott Sizemore went 3-4 with a double, run, and RBI against the Yankees.  OF Magglio Ordonez was 2-4 with just his 2nd RBI of the season.  Ironically, both came on ground outs.  Tigers OF Austin Jackson went 2-5, but on the year has 41 Ks & 24 hits.

Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez was 2-2 with a homer, 2 walks and a SB.

SP Fausto Carmona gave the streaking Indians another victory to even his personal record at 3-3.  He went 8 innings, giving up 5 hits, 1 run, 1 walk and 5 Ks.  He owns a 2.59 ERA in the 6 starts since his opening day shellacking when he gave up 10 runs.

Oh and Dodgers OF Andre Ethier extended his hit streak to 29 games.

The Kansas City Royals have now won 4 games in a row 3 times this season after doing it a grand total of 0 times last season.
