I'll be back...from the DL

Cardinals 3B David Freese was hit on the left hand by a pitch by Braves RP Scott Linebrink on Sunday.  A DL stint is looking likely.

Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista left the game in the 7th inning against the Yankees with a stiff neck.

Astros 1B Carlos Lee collided with SS Angel Sanchez going after a pop fly and was carted off the field.  El Caballo was 2-3 with a homer and 3 RBIs at the time.  Latest update has the chest xray coming back negative.

Red Sox 3B Kevin Youkilis missed Sunday’s game due to re-aggravating his hip injury.

Angels SP and early AL Cy Young Award favorite Jered Weaver had his start skipped Sunday due to a stomach virus.  He will start against the last place Red Sox on Monday.

Yankees 2B Robinson Cano left Sunday’s game with a bruised left hand after receiving a pick off throw.  He’s day to day.

Phillies SP Roy Oswalt should make his next start Saturday vs Atlanta.

Red Sox SP Josh Beckett will start Wednesday at Baltimore.

Dodgers OF Andre Ethier extended his hit streak to 27 games on Sunday.  Honestly it was a hometown call by the official scorer.  It was his last AB and he hit a grounder off the first baseman’s glove.  Not saying I could have made the play, but this is professional baseball.  If the game was played in San Diego I’m pretty sure that was an error.  Anyway, the streak continues.

Twins 1B Justin Morneau hit his first homer of the season, but he couldn’t stop the Twins from losing their 6th straight game.

Astros SP Bud Norris shutout the Brewers 5-0 going 7 2/3 innings, giving up 3 hits and striking out 11.  Brewers 1B Prince Fielder has now reached base in 14 straight games.

A’s SP Gio Gonzalez went 6 2/3 innings giving up 2 earned runs, 5 hits, 2 walks and struck out 7 in a victory over the Rangers.  Texas SP Matt Harrison lasted only 1 1/3 innings giving up 6 hits and 4 earned runs.  Coco Crisp and his magnificent afro returned to the lineup with 2 hits, a run and an RBI.

Orioles SP Zach Britton left the game after 6 innings but got the victory over the White Sox giving up 5 hits and a run in 6 innings.  It was just an issue with a callus, and he should be fine to make his next start.  DH Luke Scott was 2-4 with a homer and 2 RBIs.  He has 3 homers and 6 RBI in his last 4 games.  On the losing side, White Sox SP Gavin Floyd gave up 7 hits and 6 runs in 6 innings pitched.  The White Sox have now lost 5 straight games.

Rockies ace Ubaldo Jiminez, the starter for the NL in last year’s All Star Game, was knocked out of the game after 4 innings by the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday.  THE PITTSBURGH PIRATES!!  He gave up 6 hits, 4 earned runs, 4 walks, had 6 Ks and threw 3 wild pitches.

Twins SP Carl Pavano gave up 12 hits and 7 runs in 5 1/3 innings in a loss to the Royals.  No walks or strikeouts for Carl.  Royals 2B Mike Aviles was 3-5 with a homer, 4 RBI, and a SB.  He now has 4 homers and 11 RBIs in his last 6 games.

Angels rookie closer Jordan Walden earned his 5th save against the Rays on Sunday.  He now has a 0.90 WHIP & 0.68 ERA on the season.  DH Bobby Abreu went 2-3 with a double, walks, RBI & 2 SBs.  He’s now reached base 13 times in his last 5 starts.  Rays OF Matt Joyce was 3-3 with a walk, run, RBI & SB.

Mariners ace Felix Hernandez went 7 innings, giving up 6 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk and 10K.  King Felix received a ND.  Red Sox OF Carl Crawford helped his team avoid the sweep with a game winning hit in the 9th.  He broke a 1-15 slump going 2-4.  His batting average still sits on the Interstate at .168.

Marlins SS and high fantasy draft pick Hanley Ramirez hit his first homer of the season.  He went 1-5 on Sunday with the 2 run homer.

Blue Jays OF Rajai Davis went 1-3 with a run, 2 walks, and 3 SBs Sunday in the loss to the first place Yankees.

Nationals RP Drew Storen seems to have secured the closer position with his 5th save Sunday.  He has a 0.87 WHIP & 0.60 ERA on the season.

Mets SP Chris Young earned a ND on Sunday Night Baseball against Philly, going 7 innings, giving up 2 hits, 0 runs, 3 walks and 7 Ks.  His opposing pitcher Cliff Lee also went 7 innings, going 8 hits, 1 run, 2 walks, and 5 Ks in the ND as the game went into extra innings.
