Where was his posse when he hurt his elbow? Andre the Giant's posse would never have let that happen

Phillies SP Joe Blanton was placed on the DL with an impingement of the right elbow.

In other injury news Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira missed Thursday night’s game after injuring his shoulder in Wednesday’s game.  He hopes to be back Friday.  Francisco Cervelli will come off the DL Friday to resume his backup catcher duties.

The Rays swept a doubleheader from the Twins.  Rays 2B Ben Zobrist had himself a nice week…he went 7-10 with 3 doubles, 2 homers and 10 RBIs…..TODAY.  He had a career high 8 RBIs in Game 1 alone.  He’s now leading the AL in RBI.  OF Johnny Damon had a hit in both games so his hit streak is now up to 16 games.  Game 2 SP Jeff Niemann took a no hitter into the 7th inning.  He ended up getting his first victory of the season going 7 innings giving up 2 hits and a run with a walk and 2 Ks.

Mariners rookie SP Michael Pineda beat the Tigers Thursday afternoon going 6 innings giving up 4 hits and 2 runs with 3 walks and 9 Ks.  He should not be available in any league, worry about the innings limit at the end of the year.

Blue Jays SP Brandon Morrow and Rangers SP Alexi Ogando had an afternoon pitcher’s duel going.  They both left with NDs.  Morrow went 6 innings, giving up 6 hits, 2 runs, a walk and 6 Ks.  Ogando went 6 innings also, giving up 4 hits, 2 runs, 3 walks and 7 Ks.  Rangers SS Elvis Andrus went 2-4 with 3 stolen bases.  Thank you…thank you very much.

Yankees SP CC Sabathia went 7 innings giving up 7 hits, 0 earned runs, a walk and 6 Ks in beating the White Sox.  The White Sox scored 3 unearned runs thanks to Derek Jeter’s replacement at SS Eduardo Nunez.  Just a rest day for Jeter.  OF Nick Swisher’s bat finally came alive.  He ended an 0-19 streak with a single in the 5th, then ended a career worst 75 AB homer-less streak connecting on his 1st HR of the season.  He ended up 3-4 with 3 runs and 4 RBI.  White Sox SP Edwin Jackson had control problems Thursday night.  He went 4 innings giving up 6 runs, 4 hits, 5 walks and 2 Ks.

Red Sox SP Jon Lester moved to 14-0 in his career vs the Orioles.  He went 8 strong innings, giving up 4 hits, 2 runs, 3 walks and 5 Ks to move the Red Sox out of last place in the AL East.  Kevin Youkilis left the game with a hip injury, but it’s not thought to be serious.  Shirley.

Cardinals OF Lance Berkman refuses to cool off.  He’s a notoriously sluggish April hitter, but Thursday night he went 4-5 with 2 homers and 5 RBI.  He has 7 straight multi-hit games.  He”s now hitting .410 on the season with 8 homers and 22 RBIs.  Fellow OF Matt Holliday must feel the heat from Berkman batting behind him, he went 2-4 with 3 RBI and is hitting .433 on the season.  Also noteworthy in the Cardinals victory over the Astros is Fernando Salas earned the save.  Most likely it’s just because it wasn’t a typical save situation.

Indians OF Grady Sizemore hit his 4th homer in 10 games this season.

Diamondbacks SS Stephen Drew had a big game Thursday night against the Cubs, going 2-5 with a homer, 3 runs, and 5 RBIs.

Blue Jays OF Travis Snider was sent to AAA Thursday.  And speaking of AAA, Rockies 3B Ian Stewart was sent down earlier this season, well he’s now hitting .429 with 2 homers and 12 RBIs in 6 games.
