No one looks forward to going up against Doc Halladay

Phillies SP Roy Hallday came within an out of another CG on Sunday. He went 8 2/3 innings giving up 5 hits, 1 run, 1 walk and a career high 14 strikeouts in their 4 game sweep of the Padres. Closer Jose Contreras was placed on the disabled list, so it looks like Ryan Madson is the closer in Philly for now. So even though Charlie Manuel was teammates with Babe Ruth, that doesn’t mean you can trust the guy.

Reds 3B Scott Rolen was placed on the DL with a strained left shoulder.

Cardinals 1B Albert Pujols should miss a game or 3 with a strained left hammy.

Mariners 1B Justin Smoak is eligible to come off the bereavement list on Tuesday.

3 noteworthy hitting streaks were extended on Sunday.  Dodgers OF Andre Ethier is at 21 games, Royals OF Alex Gordon is at 18, and Yankees 2B Robinson Cano is at 13.

Rays SP James Shields pitched his 2nd straight complete game against Toronto.  He gave up 4 hits while striking out 7.  He’s given up 8 hits and a run combined in those CGs.  Toronto SP Ricky Romero went 7 innings, giving up 5 hits and 2 runs with 10 Ks in the 2-0 loss.

Mets 3B David Wright went 2-4 with 2 homers, 3 RBI, 3 runs and a SB.

Yankees SS Derek Jeter went 4-6 with a 2B, run and RBI.  OF Curtis Granderson was 3-5 with a 2B, HR, 2 runs and 3 RBI.  Looks like he is settling into the 2 hole.  OFs Brett Gardner and Nick Swisher went a combined 0-10 with 7 Ks.  GOAT Mariano Rivera blew his 2nd straight save.  Of course that’s not goat, that’s Greatest Of All Time.  I’m pretty sure Girardi won’t hesitate to use him on Monday in a save situation.

Struggling Red Sox OF Carl Crawford went 2-4 with his first homer of the season and 2 RBI.  Maybe the Angels fans making it rain in the outfield helped.  Former Angel John Lackey stymied their bats going 8 innings, giving up 0 runs on 6 hits with a walk and 6 Ks in the 7-0 victory.

Tigers SP Max Scherzer improved to 4-0 on the season after going 8 innings and giving up 0 runs on 4 hits with 3 walks and 7 Ks as the Tigers completed the 3 game sweep of the White Sox.

Nationals OF Mike Morse went 3-4 with his first homer of the season and 3 RBI.  Drew Storen earned his 3rd save and it looks like he wrestled the job away from Sean Burnett.

Brewers SP Randy Wolf went 8 innings giving up a run on 4 hits with 0 walks and 4 Ks to earn the win over the Astros.

Rangers SP CJ Wilson went 7 innings giving up 4 runs on 8 hits with a walk and 10 Ks to earn the victory over the Royals.

Giants closer Brian Wilson gave up 3 earned runs in the 9th on Sunday.  His ERA is at a whopping 9.82 for the season.

As SP Brett Anderson beat the Mariners on Sunday going 7 innings, and giving up an earned run on 5 hits with a walk and 6 Ks.

Cardinals RP Mitchell Boggs earned his 3rd save of the season in the ESPN Sunday night game against the Reds.  He looks to be the closer for good in STL now.
