Hey Geico...we are looking for a sponsor!

Captain Caveman…Johnny Damon…doing a better job of holding on than Michael Douglas. His walkoff HR against Matt Capps of the Twins was the  5th team he’s hit a walkoff home run for in his illustrious career.

Breaking injury news :

Twins C Joe Mauer was placed on the DL with bilateral leg weakness. Now I’m no doctor, my training is in psychology, but that sounds pretty serious. They are saying it’s possibly due to nerve or spinal cord issues. More details as we get them.
Reds 2B Brandon Phillips is day to day with a groin injury.  They are hoping he returns this weekend.
Phillies 1B Ryan Howard returned to the lineup Thursday. The bad news is he went 0-4 with a K. The good news is Cliff Lee was pitching, more about that later.
The Texas Rangers released their starting rotation for the weekend and rookie Alexi Ogando will make his next start against the Yankees on Sunday.

Rockies SS Troy Tulowitzki is hotter than Doritos taco shells.  The Rockies swept the Mets in a doubleheader Thursday and in the 4 game series he was 10-16 with 4 homers and 8 RBIs.  He would be leading the NL in RBIs with 15 if it weren’t for this guy…..

Brewers 1B Prince Fielder extended his hit streak AND RBI streak to 7 games on Thursday.  He leads the NL with 16 RBIs.  SP Randy Wolf went 6 2/3 innings giving up 3 hits, 0 runs, 2 BBs & 10Ks in the Brewers 4-1 win over the Pirates.

Twins SP Carl Pavano went 8 innings giving up 4 hits, 0 runs, 2 BBs & 7 Ks.  But the bullpen blew the win for him.  Joe Nathan blew the save giving up 2 hits, 2 runs and a walk to send the game to extra innings in which Johnny Damon eventually won with the walk-off.  Rays OF Sam Fuld also went 2-5 with his AL leading 7th SB.

Phillies SP Cliff Lee bounced back from a rough start to pitch a CG shutout against the Nationals.  He gave up 3 hits, a walk, and struckout 12.  Nationals starter Jordan Zimmerman took a perfect game into the 6th inning.  He ended up going 7 innings, giving up 5 hits with 1 ER, 0 BB & 4 Ks.

Astros SP Bud Norris went 6 innings giving up 2 hits, 0 runs, 3 BBs & 7 Ks in the 1-0 win over the Padres.

Yankees C HIP HIP!  JORGE! Posada has 7 hits on the season.  5 are home runs.  He hit a solo shot in the bottom of the 9th inning off of Orioles closer Kevin Gregg to send the game into extra innings that OF Nick Swisher eventually won with a sac fly off of Mike Gonzalez.  AROD was 3-3 in the game, and for the Orioles OF Nick Markakis went 3-5 with a homer, double, 2 runs and 3 RBI.  The Orioles were up 5-0 as late as the fifth as Yankees SP Phil Hughes suffered through another poor outing – 4 1/3 IP, 7H, 5R, 0BB, 2K.  Orioles SP Jake Arrieta started off strong, but eventually the Yankees deep lineup wore him down.   His line ended with 6 IP, 5 H, 3R, 1BB & 2K.

Dodgers OF Matt Kemp stole his ML leading 8th base Thursday night, and hit a solo homer in the 9th inning off of Rich Franklin. Cardinals 1B Albert Pujols hit his 2nd homer of the season, he’s now 6-13 with 3 RBIs in his last 3 games.  OF Lance Berkman stayed hot with 2 hits & 2 runs scored, and OF Matt Holliday went 3-5 with 3 RBIs.

Detroit Tigers SP Phil Coke threw 7 shutout innings giving up 3 hits with 2 walks and 2 Ks in the Tigers 3-0 win.  A’s SP Gio Gonzalez opposed him and went 6 innings giving up only 2 hits and 0 runs but walked 6 batters to go along with 6 Ks.
