Pinstripes make anyone look classy

Here’s the fantasy news for a Saturday chock full of baseball.  Every Major League team is in action today.  I’m getting an earlier start today so I won’t be so tired this time. I’m slow enough as it is.  It would also help if I post these the same night I write them instead of getting around to it the next day.  I guess it will take me some time to round into regular season form as well.

Kyle Drabek went 0-3 as a September call up for the Blue Jays last year. He was a key piece in the trade that sent Roy Halladay to the Phillies. Saying his first start of the 2011season went better is a bit of an understatement.  Like Megan Fox is decent looking.  He had a no hitter going into the 6th inning until Denard Span hit a 1 out single.  He ended up going 7 innings with 7 Ks and only giving up 1 ER.  Drabek is of course the son of former Yankee and also NL CY Young Award winner Doug Drabek.  Last night’s hero JP Arencibia was out of the lineup.  But owners shouldn’t panic, a catcher getting a day game off after a night game is as common as Snooki getting dryhumped on a Saturday night.

The Kansas City Royals had another comeback win to remain undefeated IN APRIL.

The Pittsburgh Pirates were cruising to another win until the bullpen(Evan Meek) threw gasoline on the fire.

Mark Texeira is looking like he’s gonna have a big year.  As Snoop Dogg would say he’s a CHRONICALLY slow starter.  But 2 homers in 2 games is rewarding all the owners who had faith.  He always puts up big numbers while doing absolutely nothing in April.  Who knows how high his ceiling is this season?  Russell Martin hit his first AL homer today.  AJ Burnett looked good.  Yankee fans know where this is going, but as long as he can stay ahead of hitters he’s ownable in fantasy leagues.  He’s always been a strikeout pitcher, and being a starter for the Yankees the wins should come if he keeps this up.  Brayan Villareal made his major league debut for the Tigers today.  The first batter he faced?  AROD.  Welcome to the big leagues son!  AROD hit career homer #614 in the 6th.  Brad Penny continued his ineffectiveness in the AL with 8 ERs in 4 1/3 IP.

Carlos Quentin stayed EN FUEGO..he now has 7 RBIs in the season’s first 2 games.

The Golden Sombrero for Shin Soo Choo today.

Tommy Hanson struggled a bit, and then the rain delay didn’t help.  He didn’t return after the delay so his line was 3 ER in 3 2/3 IP.

Carlos Marmol picked up the save for the Cubs in impressive fashion.  1 IP 3Ks.

Jake ‘The Snake” Westbrook had a rough day today.  Losing Wainwright was a huge blow for the Cardinals.  Insert another Snooki joke here.  Westbrook gave up 8 ER in 4 1/3 IP.

Good news and bad news for Justin Morneau.  The good news?  He’s started both of the Twins games this year.  The bad news?  0 hits, but a walk and an RBI in 6 ABs so far.  Keeping an eye on him and Jason Bay coming off of concussions.  With all the publicity the NFL is giving concussions, interesting to see how MLB treats them.  Makes you wonder how many guys played thru concussions in the old days.  Of course in the old days Gary Busey was considered normal.

Adrian Beltre big grand slam for the Rangers tonight.  Off of John Lackey who gave up 9 ERs in 3 2/3 IP.  Big Papi another homer for Boston.

The World Champion Giants got their first win of the season.  Matt Cain threw 6 innings of shutout ball.

Chris Tillman of the Orioles…6 innings of no hit ball.  Was pulled after 101 pitches.  The Rays first hit came from BJ Upton’s single with 2 outs in the 7th.  Tillman got the W.

Cliff Lee 7 IP 11K & a W Saturday night.

Travis Wood for Cincy 7 IP, 7Ks and only 1 ER in the win.

Ichiro 3 steals in 2 games thus far.

In closer news, K-Rod gave up 3 hits and a walk in the 9th to the Marlins to blow the lead, but got the win when the Mets scored 3 in the 10th.

Brian Fuentes, taking over as A’s closer while Andrew Bailey is on the DL.  He got the loss tonight after giving up 3 hits and 2 runs in the top of the 9th of a 2-2 game.

Injury update : Matt Holliday misses at least 2-4 weeks.  The Cards haven’t placed him on the DL yet.

Ubaldo Jiminez, Rockies pitcher and All Star Starter for the NL has a cut cuticle on his pitching hand and could miss his next start Thursday vs Pittsburgh.

Evan Longoria replaced at 3B in the sixth inning tonight.  The club is saying it is muscle soreness on his upper left side.  More news as we get it.

Great recap of all the days action! Love the blended humor and wish more sportswriters provided a balance of seriousness and fun when writing. Far too many dry, boring blogs out there. Really looking forward to your next post!
